Blue dials on modern watches are attractive and under different lighting, they often look different. I often see vintage omegas sold on Ebay with blue dials. I am not really a fan of these pieces but I am wondering, are they authentic? Did Omega actually really make them or are they just repaint jobs?

Depends entirely on the watch, Omega has made many blue dials dating back to the early days, just not in all models, if you post a pic we can tell you but the color alone doesn't determine whether its original or not. If its a piepan constellation with a blue dial, then no, if its a 70s Seamaster diver, then yes.

I am curious about those in the Geneve line or a Seamaster de ville? This is an example which I see and there are quite a number of them out there.

I'm not the great expert on those, but I'm fairly certain its not meant to be blue on those models, but what I do know is $900 for a Seamaster De Ville is way overpriced.

Yes, that's way overpriced considering (a) it's a refinished dial and (b) the movement is cobbled together. The refinisher did a very good job on the dial though. Look at the movement - there's 3 different colors of plating. That watch should sell for about half the asking price IMO.

Mid to late 1960s seems to be when blue dials started appearing on Omegas with some regularity.

The blue finish on these early ones was actually plated like a silver or gold colored dial, they are not painted as we now see on refinished ones. The chemical agents to do this color are so toxic they are no longer available.

The subtle two tone effect on this one is actually only one color blue with the inner and outer parts of the dial being brushed in different directions.

I already am - first! I got a preview before any pics hit the forums. Of course, Steve has dibs on my 2943 with the black dial.
