I have always liked Blue dialled watches and I think this Omega is very attractive. I am guessing its a fairly obvious redial but my question is. Did Omega ever make the 50s Seamasters in a Blue dial?
I was wondering the same thing, but from what I gather mine is also a “Franken-dial”, but it’s a damn good looking watch that everyone compliments…..
It sure is (a redial). Not surprised you’re getting compliments for it in the wild - among the eagle-eyes collectors bunch probably not so much. But that’s not to say you shouldn’t like your watch, quite the contrary. If you’re like how it looks that’s all that matters. 😀
You won’t find blue dialed Omega dresswatches from the 50s, though. That started in the late 60s, I think, with some Genèves and a few SMs.
I think the Cosmics and Geneve Dynamics in the late 60s were the first to get colored dials and then it expanded to other lines after. Those two lines were marketed at younger consumers so Omega was a bit more daring in the color choices.
Thank you, I figured my post might ruffle a few feathers from the aficionados that have a discerning eye, but I immediately liked it when I saw it for sale.
Anyway, beauty is the eye of the beholder and it looks good in a retro-chic way, especially when wearing anything dark and light blue-jeans, etc.
Another plus is that you can wear it everyday and not worry about it taking a beating.
By the way, those are both very nice looking timepieces and the blue dials are quite striking.
I first became impressed with the contrasting combination of a blue dial a few years back with the two-tone Rolex submariner from the early 90’s.
I liked the combination of Beefy lugs and blue dial of the one I uploaded. Given that my own 2846 is a redial anyway I haven't discounted the idea of having it refinished in blue at some point.
It was at the end of the 1960s that the blue dials appeared on the Seamaster Cosmic and Geneve.
before this period, the dials were predominantly white, black on some models, rarely two-tone (hence their price now).
