^ this precisely, my 105.002 is similarly blueish, just depends how it was treated over the years and how it reacts, they all started out black.
In my opinion they start black, and fade to blue. The cause of the fade is not known to me, neither the chemical/physical cause, nor the man/natural origin. All I have seen are quite worn. Lastly, I have yet to see one that makes the whole watch look more attractive, than a nice original clean black DO90 would. I wonder if a blue bezel would look good with the blue sunburst dial? I think it might.... I don't really understand the premiums they fetch, but they are there, and no point in me being like King Canute against the tide of current speedmaster prices.
Ok thank you so what the chap is selling is a fader black bezel that some will pay a premium for. I don't think I'm one of crowd that would paid a premium for a faded bezel
One of the great things about vintage watches is how different ageing/patina appeals to different people. Personally I dont like the bezels that have aged to blue or green but absolutely love the faded/ghost bezel look.
So I'm curious, what are people's thoughts/opinions as to what this ultimate goes for in today's Speedie market? Is this gonna crack the $10K USD/7000 GBP threshold?
I am a big fan of faded bezels, especially the blue and ghost ones. So much so that I replaced the original 'telemeter' bezel of my 105.002 with a 'newer' faded blue bezel.
Awesome bezels @Chye and @Optimizer13 ! Not all speedy bezels fade to grey/blue though, some go brown like the dials and I'll use this opportunity to shamelessly plug my 'martian red' bezel on instagram @ahantel
Still a very nice watch btw the one in the original post, curious to see if people do pay a premium for the bezel, already at 4500 quid now with 5 days to go
