The Constellation black dials seem to retain their original color better. At least I have seem a lot more of them where you would swear they were a redial. I don't mind myself thinking that as much about SMs.

So that's where that watch went off to! Great piece Ronnie and a regret of mine not buying it when I had the chance. You know who to contact if you decide to let it go!;)

That's right, me ;) . As a previous customer, I believe I have priority. ;) On the other hand Mike may be a customer too.:( . In which case it should still go to me as Mike more.

Or the both of you cancel each other out and I get the watch. Remember, I have no black waffle dials anymore.

    Nice but I don't think that's a NOS.

The crown's color doesn't match .(new replacement, I guess)

That's rather nice. Just for knowledge sake, did the gold versions typically have less defined bezel?

No, but gold wears quickly, plus I think the bezel is probably sharper then it appears there.

Plus I believe that's a gold cap connie and the vast majority of gold cap connies I have seen have the fold int he bezel less prominent - unless they are near NOS pieces in which case they are pretty sharp still.

Because of the camera angle and lighting, the bezel gives the impression of not being sharp but I assure you it is sharp as the day it left the factory. This is case ref 2852, Calibre 505 and comes in orignal box with all the paperwork. The watch is 100% New Old Stock - it has never been worn and has been stored in its box since the day it was purchased. It has only been exposed to daylight a couple of times. Everything about it is NOS including the band, buckle and gold spring bars.

I've seen this discrepancy between crown and bezel in gold capped vintage constellations in NOS or near NOS condition. It is probably because the bezel is 14k gold and the crown is gold plated (to perhaps mimic 18k gold) so typically the crown appears to have a deeper shade of gold. They come close in look if the watch has never been polished at all since the tarnish on the bezel imbues it with a deeper golden hue (with flecks of brown as well) bringing its look closer to that of the crown.

What I see from this angle, the second hand is a bit thick, looks like it was made for a dome dial, cut to fit the piepan dial.

and if I could see the logo on that crown then I would say it's an original version or not

    Best.

I'd characterize this black dial as a slow moving one...
