    Hello again dear UG members,

I've been trying to buy some watches lately but I always get outbid. Seem to be in rut. I've therefore decided to get away from auction sites and try to find watches elsewhere but that comes with more risk.

Found this UG chronograph with a black dial. I love the gold and black mix. A few words scared me in the description such as "rare and/or UNIQUE". No UG markings on the mouvement and it looks like a Landeron. Case back has no numbers and these are the only pictures given by the seller.

The second watch is a uni compax and that one seems alright to me but the seller not so much. The price is low which of course is scary. Need to contact the seller and get more info.

If anyone can help with authentification of the watches I would be grateful. Would also love your tricks to make the transaction go smoothly and how to make sure the seller really has the watch.

    Both watches are in Italy!

    Now the pictures (not mine)

    J

First watch just avoid. Second watch will need a better dial picture.

Ok last chance and hopefully the reason it's appropriatly priced. Is everything legit on this one?

Complete different spot and I'll go get it in person. Just want to make sure it's alright before I make the trip.

Best of the three so far. Running minutes hand is a replacement, but looks decent otherwise in the picture provided.

Is there just no more UG available for little guys like me? Plus I missed three nice ones sold here in the last two weeks.

Man up, now! No whining ! It's not produce, it's a vintage collector's item - it needs to be stalked. Anyway, the fun is in the hunt.

Yes you're absolutely right, the fun is the hunt. It's just sad to see so many bad ones out there. Thank you!

Wise words, Lou, but sometimes the hunt is not always very fun... ;)

I believe it's been seen on here before, but only the case back!

These pictures go with the Compax. The case back has the double stamp GP and UG.

Fist time I see both GP and UG on the same caseback ! Usually it's one or the other... Anyway a GP engraving on a UG dialled watch doesn't seem right to me at all.
Now let's see what others say !?

Sorry should have mentioned that the case back had been talked about here.

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/what-went-on-here.29320/

I still don't know what to make of it. Is it original? Is it not? One can't really stamp a case back, it has to be done at the factory. Or does it?

It's quite strange that the stamping are in a row, not partially overstamped, it was not automatically done but manually with great care.
Thus, if it was done at the manufacture why would they make savings on a steel part thath worth nothing ?...
Steel can indeed be engraved or stamped afterwards.
Besides, the crown is not original it's a much more recent one, it should be without a logo.

Sorry that you missed my Uni-Compax ;).
I went through the exact same quest as you for a vintage UG.
@LouS advice was the same as every other expert on this forum: be patient :).
Look for various sources, compare, ask.

It took me 9 months at the time to find the right piece. Worth the wait!

Yes, I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on yours. The time I took to think about it and it was gone!
