Hey guys, been looking at this one for a few weeks and it keeps calling me back. would rather have stainless indices over the gold and a perfect dial but the gold on black is attractive and the patination (damage) on this dial is even and actually attractive....and the seller didn't call it starry night or some hokey crap like that so he's scores points in my book. Anything scream stay away, or is the pricing not in line with reality for the condition? Tempted to reach out to the seller if it seems all correct. https://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/omega-seamaster-503-calendar-black-dial-1958-serviced-4915779.html
Case reference is fairly uncommon, and I really like the case back. Your call on if you like the dial. I’m not fond of the like on the hands - seems too white to me. Price is OK but not great.
The caseback is what kind of threw me, have seen only one other like that. Didn’t know if that was legit or not. Now that you mention the hands I see it, possibly relumed at some point? But they are crazing which speaks to it being an old relume if it was. It’s been a beer trying to find one of these with a real black as 99% if what I have seen are redials. The speckling I guess is common with this kind of glossy dial over brass?
I’d want to get photos of the dial at different angles in sunlight to know if the spotting is attractive or not. Sometimes it is, other times it isn’t. Here are a couple of mine from the era that I think are attractive.
I can handle a little spotting if it’s even but faded text us a no-go for me, I should see if he has other photos in shade and sunlight.
