interested in this birth year watch. Really like the trenched minute rack. Dial looks original to me. What say the experts? Thanks.
I agree that the fonts look a little questionable and that the pictures aren't high enough resolution to tell for sure
I put Peyervl's example up on one tablet and my example up on another tablet and the dial printing looks the same to my eye. Using a 10x loop it appears the serifs in AUTOMATIC are the same. The serifs in CHRONOMETER also appear consistent between the 2 with the bottom leg of the E's in both extending slightly beyond the rest of the letter E and the right hand leg of the second R somewhat shorter than the same leg in the first R. The 2 different types of M's in the words AUTOMATIC and CHRONOMETER are present in both. The words AUTOMATIC and CHRONOMETER appear centered properly under the raised OMEGA. Tough for me to make the call given I'm willing to go all in on this one. The word CONSTELLATION appears to be the proper distance from the star in my example. The n's in CONSTELLATION are absent serifs in the first n and contain serifs in the second n of both examples. The first t's are fully crossed by the extension from the s in both examples and the second t of both examples contain only half a cross. The cross of the first t in both examples is even with the top plane of the e in both examples. The dimensional star appears positioned correctly on my example with the point directed at the 12 hour marker and the SWISS MADE appears positioned in the same distance from the 6 hour marker in both.
this rail tracks are notoriously difficult to assess and you need really clear pictures to have even half a chance of giving an opinion (no offence intended to those who have tried)
Dial looks good (caveat: wait for the experts). The hands need checking out as the infill looks very dark for aged lume.
Still not sure photos are adequate. Obviously different lighting used in second out-of-case photos. Dial shows as a totally different color. Hands in the way still bothers me. Close up of dial does show even patina. Still promising. Not yet willing to walk away from it.
Tried to get some clearer photos in natural daylight, still not good enough so no point posting. No.7 marker does need attention as suspected.
I usually hedge my watch purchases if I can but this is a birth year watch opportunity so I’m going to go all in on it and we’ll see what we get. I’ve got someone who can take care of that hour marker.
Watch went for a little over $1500 US, which with a service and repair of the hour marker gets pretty close to the full value. I was willing to go to $1400 but no more. The hunt continues. There's always another one.
