I'm thinking about getting a birth year Speedy Pro (1984), and you guys are the ultimate experts. I need to know what reference(s), serial number range(s), and characteristics to look for (bezel, bracelet reference, case back, etc.) so that I get something authentic and original from the correct year. My initial research seemed to indicate 145.0022 with a 45 million serial. Any help you guys can provide would be awesome, whether it's answers or links to respected places to research for myself (I've done some Googling but found lots of conflicting information). Thanks!

Hi Shem. Assuming you want a Speedmaster Professional aka "moonwatch", then you have the reference 145.0022 that was made from 1981-1988, serial #'s that go up to 48.240.xxx. In 1988, the new "Product Identity Code" or PIC reference system was introduced by Omega, you are looking for PIC 3590.50 (the new way of saying 145.0022), which continue with the same serial, starting at 48.240.xxx. I'm not sure how you can actually tell if a particular watch was initially sold in 1988, but others here much smarter than me will know. Good luck in your quest.
