Best money transfer methods?

Not sure whether you have all noticed how high Paypal’s exchange rates are, at least when sending Paypal friends. If there’s any currency exchange differentials to your benefit, I noticed Paypal usually erases them.
Articles I found in the Guardian say that essentially Paypal is one of the worst exchange rates and most expensive ways to transfer money. Banks are also very bad.

So I’m in the process of completing a transaction with someone in the UK and he suggested we try Azimo. We’ll see how it goes.

Apparently Transferwise was one of the best rated methods for small and medium size payments.

Had anyone tried any of those and does anyone have any feedback?

True, PayPal has terrible exchange rates. The only other one I have used is TransferWise, and it was great. I'm not sure what is meant by "small and medium size payments". How much are we talking about? Is there a problem using TW for larger payments?

+1 for Revolut uses pretty close to interbank rates at time of transfer.
Even lets you dabble in crypto currency.
You can have balances in $ € £ or whatever takes your fancy, use you phone and have a free card. Excellent.

Small was £200, medium was £2000 - and since large was £150K I haven’t even read that paragraph.
Here’s the article, a bit old from 2016 but very interesting.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I’m getting fed up with Paypal.

I have used transferwise multiple times, not only for watch deals and I can say, not only I have never had a problem, the rates are very low and the money is moved very very quickly. I feel better with transferwise than with my bank.

thanks Rudi, how long does it take in your experience?

Between an EU account and an account in, for example, South America it would be maximum 30h. In my experience, there have been times where transfers between the two continents were done in only 5h.

I never used transferwise inside the EU though. That information I do not know..

Wishing a good night,

Rudi

I've used transferwise several times and it's always been excellent.

If I was transferring money to a trusted person I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

My credit union offers Zelle. I've never used it but perhaps I will start.

Used the UK Post Office to transfer funds a few years ago and the process was smooth with minimal fees.

This is partially true. You never own the crypto currency « bought » on Revolut - you can only speculate on it. They own your coins and you will never be able to transfer them to your personal wallet for example. Same goes for Gold.

+1 for Revolut.
I recieved a wire from France in less than 24 hours.
It's also what I use when I pay for watch servicing 😀

+1 for TransferWise. Great rates, super speedy (some have taken seconds) and great customer service should you have any issues. Have been using for years and have nothing but positive things to say.

Here is a thread I created a few years ago on this topic (maybe it answers some questions, or creates more, and maybe the terms have changed slightly). FWIW I use Transferwise these days. An example : about a year and a bit ago I bought something from the US, when the CHF:USD was 1:1, for 2000 USD. The guy would not send me his wire details, insisted on PayPal F&F only. That cost me 2180CHF. Transferwise would have cost me 2007CHF.

Another vote for transferwise. I even paid for my triumph with it!
