Now, here’s what really interests me. The person that started this thread has made only one post...the post that started this thread. AND the last time they were “seen” was the day this thread was started.
Maybe he has two identities on the forum... good observation though.

Under 15k you say?

This is solid 14k (gold) does that qualify?

My Day-Date 118238 was well under $15k back in '02. Euro was weak vs $ so bought new at an AD in Paris on vacation. Think it ended up around $12k total after hitting the "Detaxe" at the airport.

How kind! Its a 1978 model 1500 Date. Be aware though it is only 34mm, rather than the normal 36mm that the Datejust comes in.

Cheers

This is definitely one of my favorite dress watches and is at the top of my wish list. They can be had for under $15K preowned.

All these beautiful watches and no one mentions the Cartier Santos. Stainless steel, two tone, ADLC, three handed, chronograph, it comes in all flavors and looks great doing it.

Please share your favorites! To me this seems like such a great price range for getting into the very high end (especially used) when you don't necessarily want the most complicated watch.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love the hell out of a Lange Datograph or a Patek perpetual.... but that's not going to happen. I can rock this budget, and a Calitrava, Saxonia or 1815 is nothing to sneeze at.

Of course, you can also keep it complicated and go for something like a used JLC Perpetual Calendar. But I would probably sacrifice complications and aim for the very high end with previous materials instead.

Used seems like the way to go unless you're buying a Saxonia Thin. What's your favorites? What off-beat brands or lesser known vintage options should be considered?

Right now my top consideration is a ALS 1815 in 38,5mm (up/down is cool but probably a stretch), but I would love to broaden my horizon

JLC Ultra Thin Moon - I saw someone post it already, but that is the watch for sure.

also the fact that Patek 5107s are now a little bit above $15k USD is insane. probably would be my top choice.

OP may never read this, but my pick of pure dress watches under $15K would be an old Hamilton with a Grade 770 movement. 22 jewels, finishing that rivaled the Swiss Big 3, shock protection... All that for under $1500 in a gold case, diamonds optional. As for the other $13.5K, invest it wisely.

Pfft. You're all amateurs. I got this last week and now I'm convinced it was the greatest, sexiest, savviest watch purchase ever😉 . Looks as good with a pair of blue jeans as it does with a suit:
