Went to the local car boot this morning at one of the stalls a chap pulls out a box with about half a dozen watches in it All fake Breitling and Rolex says to me while i'm looking in the box there all fake watches want a fiver for that one (daytona) and rest are £2.00 each. Handed over £2.00 and got this gem This was one of the watches got home put in a battery running smooth humming away, gasket has disintegrated to a gooey mess needs a dam good clean
Been going to them for the last 15 years or so not just for watches tho that’s only the last year or so I’ve started to really look for them
I’ve been to a few car boots and flea markets over the years but never really looking for watches. There is one locally that I never bothered with until last month and I landed a couple of watches for five euros. The Datofix is obviously only good for parts but the Precimax is a runner and likely a Valjoux movement. I think you have to be extremely lucky, but you can only be lucky if you drag yourself out of bed and actually go.
I used to frequent them but the era of eBay and the internet killed it for the most part-everyone thinks they have an “antique”. I scored a 14k Lucien Piccard with a cracked crystal and half a croc strap for $5 at one in a bag of junk watches. Persistence and a cool head pays off. Never get excited in front of the dealer and always haggle (the guy wanted $10 for the LP). Otherwise they can read your enthusiasm.
I found a 1911 45 acp in the trunk of a car once........I returned it and never said a word but that was 30 years ago.
This initial post was a great find in the UK, I have a hummer and love it. But, if someone could please tell me where you can buy a coffee for £2 in the UK. Apart from Wetherspoons
Gasoline is still cheaper than coffee or bottled water by the liter, but apparently still more expensive than an omega in the UK
Local Tesco (UK originated supermarket chain) sells a 2 litre bottle of water for GBP 0.17 and Unleaded for about GBP 1.22 a litre -- can't be precise because it changes every day. They claim the water comes from Cannock Chase, but actually the well is at Fradley. I don't know where their petrol originates but strongly suspect it arrives via Essex. </irrelevant trivia>
