·Please find for sale this Bentima Star dating from the 40’s - 50’s (I think).
Bentima were the U.K. distributor for Oris and also subcontracted Watch manufacture in Switzerland with their branding applied.
Funnily enough there’s still a Bentima House in Old Street in London where they used to be based.
The watch was a fortunate find in a local antique shop, I had the Watch regulated, de-crudded and a new Crystal added.
I think it wears beautifully, it’s all Dial and thin case so has great wrist presence.
The watch has service marks but has not been serviced in my possession, from my perspective it runs to decent vintage time. A proper service would be at any buyers discretion.
Case - 36mm maybe a gnat’s cock under, (I don’t own a vernier!), plated, with some wear on the LHS (previous owner wore a bracelet maybe). Interestingly shaped lugs which are 18mm and fixed.
Caseback- Stainless Steel Snap on Type
Crystal - replacement Perspex
Crown- Unsigned
Dial/Hands - this was the clincher for me. The 3,6,9,12 numerals! The domed Dial! The copper coloured hour markers! The blued hands! Beautiful! There’s a small ding near the centre and a small scratch between 3 & 4. But overall in good condition.
Strap - Vintage Pigskin, it was on the Watch when I found it and a great part of the overall look and feel I think
Movement- Bentima used Schild, Oris or ETA. I think it’s a Schild, but i’m not 100%
