Hi everyone! I'm a newbie looking to buy a vintage omega. Sorry for the long post, it's my first time around here and I want to provide as much detail as possible 馃榿

I spotted this listing on eBay, which I really like. It's unfortunately been sold now but I wanted to get opinions on it, since I really like the watch and there are other similar listings on eBay and Chrono24. I'm a lady, and so the 32mm x 39mm case size really appeals to me. I have a presage that is 33mm x 39mm and I really like that sizing on me.

It is a model 162.0063, with a calibre 1012, and serial number 40564556, which checks out against omega serial number decoder. The omega website has an example of this reference here with a White dial, where the crown looks different. However, other examples of this watch with the black honeycomb dial has the black onyx crown, and clasp without omega logo (as seen in picture). So I feel that the crown and clasp are genuine. What are your thoughts?

I also know there are certain movements that are harder to maintain (e.g. 1020 movements?), so I was wondering if the calibre 1012 presented any similar difficulties? And are there other red flags with this model that I should be aware of?

Thank you! 馃榿

Make sure you familiarize yourself with actual sold listings on eBay so you know the price range they go from. Chrono24 is usually always overpriced imo.

I don't know enough about the specifics on this model to comment on originally or the movement, sorry. But looking at endless photos should help familiarize you more as well.

Hello @Julianeee and welcome.
The watch is not from Omegas best period, but if it speaks to you there is nothing wrong with the movement, case is quite worn, the crown is not original look at the disparity between the crown recess and the much smaller diameter crown. But no reason you couldnt keep crown if you like it. Hour hand and second sweep may have lost gold plating but could be lighting. What is asking price? There may be some loss of gold plating on the lugs, difficult to tell from overexposed photos.

The problem with a bargain watch like this is that it will still cost you a few hundred $ to service. If you can make it work in your budget, I'd rather see you buy something with higher quality and in better condition. Smaller watches generally can be found for good prices.

I have to admit, I've never seen that one before. I really didn't expect to see a Cal 1012, which is a quite decent movement, inside that, I thought it would be a Cal 68x or something, quite an interesting piece, though as suggested above, not overly valuable.
