Beads of Rice original to this era Constellation?

Greetings; This was my Grandfather’s watch.

According to my Mother, her Father had purchased the watch on a business trip (heavy truck tire distributor) to Houston, Texas at the store that sold the Apollo astronaut watches. I believe this was in 1968 or 69.

I remember my Grandfather wearing this watch; it seemed so massive to a 5 year old, now on my wrist it is practically dainty.

I don’t recall what strap or bracelet was on the watch originally; this is a cheap drug store strap that I put on the watch years ago when I got it away from another relative who was not taking care of the watch.

The original omega marked crystal was badly scratched, my local jeweler cleaned the watch and replaced the crystal with this (knockoff? No omega symbol) and magnifier. Watch runs very well, loses perhaps 3 seconds over a week of constant wear.

Question, could this watch have had a Beads of Rice bracelet?

My reason for asking is: the watch has been put away for two years during work from home; now I’m getting back on the road and would like to wear this watch daily. I prefer metal bracelets since it is so hot and humid in the American South.

I would not mind spending the $$ on a good BoR bracelet; but I’m not sure of which one to pursue other than 18mm. I’m not familiar with the BoR bracelets, I see curved end pieces and I’m not sure if those would fit this Constellation.

Thank you for your advice on this topic! Cheers.

Hey and welcome aboard,

there’s a BoR for your watch. Period correct would’ve been a 1503 “7-row” BoR with 70 end links. The visually identical, more modern replacement for the end links is 570, for the bracelet 1037 or 8270. They can be bought at Omega directly, if I remember correctly the price is 450$. Vintage ones can be had on eBay for roughly half that.

The lighting makes it hard to say if your watch is yellow gold capped or rose gold capped. Should it be rose gold, ignore what I said about availability on eBay. 😀

Slightly different example, but this is how the BoR looks on that kind of “dogleg” Constellation:
