I’m looking for a motorized watch stem winder like a coffee frother. Does anyone know of such a thing?

There’s an old video somewhere of Trev winding a watch with a Black & Decker cordless drill with a keyless chuck. It worked surprisingly well for a minute or two. Then less well.

I have very advanced gout and it’s hard for me to wind a lot of my watches. I bought one of the Bergeon winding sticks but the knurling makes it very painful for me to grip it, and the wrist motion hurts as well. I tried putting my Speedy in the Diplomat winder I have but for some reason it didn’t seem to work.

As for Trev’s idea about using a cordless drill, I did think of that but all my alarm bells went off and I just know I’d break something.

That Bergeon looks like just the thing. Thanks Vercingetorix.

A generic version from China sells for about $30 on eBay.

Sorry about your condition. When my RGM 801coe arrived, I promptly overwound the thing and had to send it back. When it returned, got a watch winding lesson from Mr Murphy. If you buy something like this, there needs to be some kind of clutch that opens as resistance increases. So a $900 watchmakers tool kinda makes sense.

What?! Fully winding a watch shouldn't damage it.

There really is no such state as "over wound"...what were the exact symptoms? Unless the mainspring broke, I doubt you did anything wrong. Even if it did, unless you were turning the crown with pliers you likely didn't do anything wrong.

I somehow damaged the click … I would agree, however the watch should not have been shipped. I was unhappy with other issues as well that had to be addressed. Watch has been great since.

I bet we can crowd-design something which can be 3D printed. I'm thinking we start with the caseback opener, but add (subtract, actually) a conical indentation with little ribs inside the cone which grab the crown. None of the main 3D printing materials should damage the crown.
