Hello, This is my first post on this forum. I'm 29, live in Amsterdam and had always an interest in watches. Since recently I am really into Rolex This weekend I visited my parents when I noticed a speedmaster in my fathers watch box that I did not see before. Below you find the pictures. It still works and the dial and hands appear to be in great condition. My father told me he got it from my uncle some years back. Because he was under the impression that the watch did not run anymore - nor did he know the 'heritage' of a speedy he never wore it. After I told him the basics I knew about the watch and asked some members on another forum I visit (thanks mark020 for your replies) I know now it is from 1969 and it is an post moon. Off course one of my questions was if he had the b/p. Yesterday he asked my uncle, who told him he unfortunately did not have the b/p but he did had another omega watch he never wore. To my surprise it was a 2 tone speedy (pics below). Even in a better condition, with box and it runs after winding (still my dad will have them both serviced). Could any of you provide me with as much info as you know about both watches? They will never be sold (my uncle turned blind 30 years ago, thats why he didn't wore them anymore). I hope to receive the two-tone in time. Thanks in advance. Cheers. 2 tone
The style of the text on the caseback of the first indicates it is an earlier cal 861 Speedmaster. That version was only used for a short period. Your second one is also caliber 861, but a later version in two-tone (which you already know). You could determine the ages with better accuracy by noting the serial number on the movement. For starters, I'd wait for some more comments here from those with more expertise. Personally, I'd have them both serviced - a movement service only, leaving the visible parts alone and as found. Looks as though you've got a couple of very nice vintage Speedies there, and family heirlooms to boot! Take care of them and both will serve you well for many years to come. Congrats!
I think it is. Found this http://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-speedmaster-professional-dd145-0022/ any idea what it should be worth?
First time I have seen a two tone 1171 bracelet (my knowledge is limited to cruising around the omega forums). Thanks for sharing.
Sorry, the idea that it´s an italian model is wrong. we have checked and some of them were delivered to Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, USA and Australia, i.e. Worldwide
Ahk interesting, I thought I remembered it being described as "Special Italy" on the vintage Omega DB but maybe that was just the second DD145.0022
Here is information from Omega Vintage Database for DD145.0022: http://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-watches-database?ref=14394 Two very nice watches! gatorcpa
One more error propagated: what you call second DD145.0022 is in fact DA145.022 (2 series of 500 numered pieces). This error was due to the fact that caseback was engraved DD145.0022. DD stands for 14ct gold bezel, while DA stands for 18ct bezel.
I noticed that, but didn't want to say anything as it may have come from the factory both ways. That happens sometimes. gatorcpa
thanks for your replies so far. My father will have them both serviced and I will ask for some pictures of the movement and caseback
The servicing should be done properly and sympathetically or you could diminish the value of the watches (case polishing, replacement of the correct vintage parts, removal of the nice caseback goop in the second watch etc.).
Thanks, I have a watchmaker who services all my watches (rolex and other). He does not do anything before asking. For dutchies, send me a pm and I can recommend him. Thanks for the heads up btw
