I think the dial is pretty cool looking. If it could somehow be stabilized (e.g. with a clear coat), that would be my choice.
Yes, I'm thinking the same now. Watchmaker man said it's probably a no go so I'm going to try and find a crap dial with similar "patina" and give it a try.
