Back to the vintage stuff

I got the watch bug 35 some years ago when my Dad made a sudden stop at a garage sale.

Omega and Longines were very always my favorites.

Looking around I rifled through a few old watches and he picked up a coin edged Benrus and an Elgin Raymond, both gold plated, handing them to me

He said 'buy 'em"! They were both $5.

My next two were vintage Omegas from the 50's and 60's.....both garage sale "steals". I have probably 25 vintage watches and had it not been for ebay or WUS I'd probably never drifted from that buying path.

So in my 60's, with no more mortgage and college over I started looking at newer stuff. First big purchase an 8500 AT with orange highlights, then a Genta Connie.....I know but I love 'em....along the way a Breitling Navitimer 1 three hander....boy I gravitate towards some market duds huh?.....a Hydro Conquest and a few odd ball Balls and a Certina I get a kick out of.

I was really hunting down a Speedy, almost pulled the trigger on a big box, but figured my Porsche Design Orfina already scratched that itch...yeah another garage sale find.

Then it hit me.....my wife wears the AT, I gave the Breitling to my daughter and I'm wearing more of my older stuff daily.

So, for a couple hundred here and there I've picked up a few on ebay recently including this one. I'm a sucker for small seconds and the detail on the face is really neat.

32mm which looks fine on my 7.5 wrist with a 23z movement. Just a really cool watch for 1/20th of an ubiquitous Speedy!

Oh and here was another recent grab:

Just fun stuff!!!!!!!

I love that Elgin. I had several for a long time but I've gravitated towards Hamilton and Longines in the last few years. The only Elgin wristwatch I wear currently is a B.W. Raymond.
