This is one that's been on/off eBay here in the UK since November 2015.

    IMG_1119.JPG

The watch belonged to the seller's father, who passed away in 2008 - he was understandably reluctant to sell it, and when I contacted him in December 2015, and again in January 2016, he wasn't open to negotiation, and being too far apart on the value of the watch, I walked away.

It turns out that patience, and a trip to an OB who told him how much a correct bracelet and service would run to, was enough to inject some balance into the situation - and today we met in a supermarket cafe, and did a deal.

A 32 million serial puts this in 1970... and from the styling, it couldn't be from any other decade.

Really nice even wear all over, scrapes from where a bracelet has been fitted for many years and rocked back and forth (the modern JB has come off...).

And an engraving on the case back which ties the watch to the sellers father.

    IMG_1162.JPG

Still a good bit of glow after exposure to UV.

Few little spiders leg cracks in the glaze of the dial.

Off to the Spa at the end of the week!

STS? You stopping at just a crystal or having anything more intensive done?

    Yes!

They've done fantastic work for me in the past, and it's always nice to pop over and see Simon and Tony. :)

Going for crown, crystal, deep clean, new seals all round, service.

Want it watertight, and functioning as it should, not going to mess with cosmetics other than the crystal.

Good choice. Ask him to hurry up with my 198.0020, I think it must have got lost down his sofa!

Yours looks great by the way.

Looking good! Congrats. Love the gems that never sell on ebay...and then do, and turn out to be awesome.

    Thanks Matt!

It's nice when they come good - I was a little nervous over this one... he didn't have movement shots, he didn't want to meet... patience (which I'm not good at) was key. :whistling:

No, I think it stays - it tells part of the watch's history... and I don't think it detracts from the look of the watch

Great looking watch with a fine history too. Keep the engraving - vintage watches should definately have patina, thats an important part of their charm IMO[emoji106]

Picked up this afternoon, top notch work from the team at STS as always, and lovely to catch up with Simon.

And a couple of movement shots, and of the crazed dial, courtesy of STS.
