Its my 1000th post so I thought I should come up with something really bent to celebrate. I thought about sending a quartz watch to Ulackfocus, but cruelty isn't normally part of my style so.....

Whats the average age of your watches? This should be a pretty bent waste of time that might cause you to pause and think, but it should be fun. Count only the working stuff you actually wear. No garage queens or Timex Marlins bought for a joke. Make sure you get them all..... yes, even that ugly Casio your mother-in-law gave you, the one you only wear while mowing the lawn hoping the vibration will kill the fucking thing so you can throw it out.

I count 28 on my active list, with ages ranging from 1 to 142 years old, the average age is 79.6.

That is the fun part! I think many of us would be surprised at the age of our stuff, my own collection has actually gotten younger since I started buying wrist watches instead of pocket watches.

Not really sure but must be pretty old, seems like more than half of them are out at the pubs to all hours of the night.

This has to mean something when 30-something watches' average age is the same as one's own age, which is 58.

The whole fleet is 33.8, but if you take away the two new ones purchased within the past year, the average age is 41.9 with the oldest being 82

    Excellent question....
My quick study of a reasonable sample size yields 64.6

    10.18 years on average.
Ages 48 (Omega Geneve cal. 565), 34 (IWC Porsche Design Titan), 15 (Cartier Roadster), 8 (Patek Nautilus 5980), and seven chronographs purchased in the last 4 months. Damn! the sales prices were good this year...
Seven new out of 11 kinda screws up the stats...

This would take about 5 hours to calculate for sure, but my unconfirmed guesstimate is in the 60-70 year old range. I have watches ranging from 1 to 109 years old.

I own two watches: 1927 Hamilton Barrel and a Kenneth Cole KC1345 (2008). That's an average of 48 years old.

With about 125 or so watches from 1863 to 1989, I'm not going to try!

Most of mine are from 1968 to 1972, so they'll all be around their mid-40s now...

Not the greatest photo but a quickie to show the madness.

The top row are all JeanRichard.
Bottom row left to right is the first of the seven I bought on 10/22 (Hamilton Khaki Field chronograph), then a Zenith Stratos bought on 11/23. The Baume et Mercier Capeland chronograph was bought 12/28.
Now that I have so many, I'm picking the keepers and selling the rest.
    I think.

Spreadsheet result: 33.625. So newer than most here.

Precision is not warranted since I can only estimate the age of two. Excludes a non-working PW and two of my Dad's that I've never worn. Includes my '93 Movado quartz that I wore once last year after getting a new battery. So rules followed. Well, I also excluded a Chinese digital bought in the Sihanoukville central market for a quick dive trip. Not worn since.
