After the Rolex Daytona, how about Paul Newman's 300SL? It was displayed at the Retromobile vintage car show, held a couple of weeks ago in Paris. :) IMG_9134.JPG IMG_9132.JPG IMG_9135.JPG IMG_9136.JPG

Now they are as they should be. These very early R107 had the same exhaust tips as the "pagoda". There are no mufflers available for these straight tips - had to modify one to get it to work. Well worth the trouble. No more limp dick(s)...

Here is a nice pic I have found on the net:

From Mercedes, Germany, I also got a copy of the original build data sheet for my car. The car was built in april 1971 which is the first month the R107 was in production (low serial). White body with white hardtop and with a red interior, a manual transmission and code "624" (made for Sweden) which means it has left and right mirrors, headrests, seatbelts, halogen lights, and probably (not researched enough yet) a stiffer suspension. It also had - code "524 - Lackkonservierung (Fahrzeuge wurden für Schiffstransport mit Cosmolin-Wachs besprüht)" which means it was sent to Sweden by boat and had an extra layer of protection applied because of this (petroleum-based rust inhibitor). It was also prepared for radio installation - but no radio. In most parts of the world Mercedes sold them with Becker radios. In Sweden however the Swedish agent had a deal with Blaupunkt.

    Looking forward to summertime...

At the local International auto Show today. First one I have attended since the mid 1980s, at about the time of the original Hyundai Pony. I was appalled at the dismal quality of that car! What changes since then. I still wouldn’t buy a Korean car, but my how they have changed for the better.

Lots to see. But the one that impressed me absolutely the most was the Acura NSX! I was stopped dead in my tracks. I found it difficult to walk away. It is the only car I took a picture of in three hours of tire kicking.
