I never said they were better, I only said they were an interesting alternative. That was true when they were launched, and it is true today. And, to second Archer on his point, while "better" is indeed subjective, the average person will appreciate the benefits of quartz technology over the history, engineering and romanticism that most folks on this forum see in mechanical pieces.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by everyone's response. Thank You.

Since I am new to watches, I have decided to start slowly. My first will be a Seiko SKX013 - I have a small wrist. I will get the rubber strap version and perhaps upgrade with a Strap Code bracelet.

    Thanks again.

That being said, I am secretly in love with the Omega Seamaster 300 "Vintage", but have decided to start slowly. Maybe some day.

    Im only collecting vintage watches.
In that aspect both mecanical and quartz are intriguing. The earliest quartz watches were high end and more precise than anything seen before. Introduction of quartz also forced a huge shift in the watch business.
    A quartz watch i actually use a lot is this one :) 1.jpg 3.jpg

Fact is true watch enthusiasts were mad as hell when the quartz watch industry killed off some mechanical watch manufacturer's almost killed Briteling Omega and some of the other great watchmakers. Some of them went right into quartz only to be left sad and cheap watch companies Like Acutron. There are those who still lurk in dark places and seek out those who wear quartz to gnaw on their skull at midnight. But thankfully we can all
Hate on smartwatches now and unite with our superior analog dials :D I made up some these facts cause I'm too lazy to google it. It's a theory

Never owned a quartz watch. I’ve refused.

Technology eventually turns everything into a ‘better’ widget that isn’t really better, just cheaper and less unique.

First watch acquired - my lovely wife gave me a Seiko SKX013 for St. Valentine's Day. Upon opening the box, I thought the watch looked small, but I think it is a perfect fit on my 6.75" wrist. As you can see, I had not yet figured out how to set the day/date.
