    Say you have a nice cal. 354 bumper. You use it once a week, which necessitates manually winding it each week to get it started, because it winds down between wearing intervals.

    Would this pattern cause more or less wear, generally speaking, than if one were to simply wind once and wear the watch daily. My sense is different parts would wear in each scenario, but I would appreciate any specific insights.

    I think you would have to take into consideration the over all effect of daily wear on such a vintage watch, all for the purpose of avoiding wear it might encounter from periodic manual winding. Periodic manual winding would have less of an over all affect on the watch than full time wear. That's how I see it.
