Authenticity Advice - Geneve Red dial

Hey Gang,

Just had a look at this watch in person. I was looking for the classic spider cracking which wasn’t present. It looks in good condition other than the crystal which is cracked.

The thing that is throwing me off is that apparently it’s a 70’s watch, but the white indices are throwing me off. Another user was sharing that it’s a 60’s thing.

Curious if a guru out there can’t tell it to me straight, as I’m cautiously getting into vintage watches.

Thanks!

I would suggest you Google “omega geneve 166.0163 red”. You will several similar watches. All have the cracked lacquer described above. All have a newer version of the Omega logo and Geneve font.

I am no expert on these, but I would be wary of this one unless it was very inexpensive.

Thanks for the input. One of the things throwing me off like you said is that it looks to be an early dial. But the reference number on the watch is 166.0165.. which I am struggling to find anything similar in that reference. I could likely buy the watch for 300-400CAD. I like the red dial, but I’m on the fence! This one is stumping me for sure.

I have seen one on kijiji selling for $800, looked to be same type. Not sure where they came from, and not sure where you can find it for $300. thats a steal regardless of doubts.

Thanks, that’s my watch for sale. Got a good deal since the glass was cracked. It is a refinished dial, but still in great shape overall. I think the $800cad is fair!
