    Hello everyone,

Lost out a nice cal 321 Omega Seamaster Chronograph recently and turned my eyes a slightly subtle everyday steel Omega Seamaster for the time being.

Looked on the cragslist (I know probably not the best option, but sometimes there may be a couple gems) and came across this one.

Looks pretty mint. But my question is, is this truly from the 1940s. The dial/style looks like it would be the 50s or 60s. The movement serial number would suggest it was somewhere around the 1940s.

I typed in the serial number and another watch came up on ebay. Link to the ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1943-OMEGA-Automatic-BUMPER-CAL-330-Black-Dial-MENS-Watch-RUNS-4U2FIX-/272091204199?nma=true&si=DqUX7icPtGfcSZRY9kq5MQatR9c%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

If you zoom in, you can see it has the same serial number on 108XXXXX.

Is it possible to have the same serial number? What do you guys think?

Asking $465 CAD or $323 USD. Pictures attached.

The serial number goes to mid 1940s, the dial is refinished. No it is not possible to have the exact same serial number on 2 omega watches.

Thank you for the quick response. Sort of thought it was too good to be true. Much is appreciated in your feedback.

    Cheers!

Did somebody "borrow" a picture from someone else's on line posting? I've heard of this being done.

Now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense. Assuming they completely re-done the dial as a new watch, design and everything instead of "restoring" it.

I'm going to stay away for this one haha.

It is likely not even the same dial, but a different dial that is also refinished. Shows you the pitfalls of not doing extreme due diligence dealin on eBay or Craigs list, a lot of crooks out there. Buy a crap watch for $200 , tart it up and sell it for $500.

Thank you for your help and recommendation.

Seems awfully a lot of work to assembly this "franken" watch considering the Canadian dollar is so low right now and he bought it for USD. But a fake nonetheless.

Here in Vancouver, we are limited to maybe one or two stores that sells vintage pieces. Both great stores but options can be very limited at times. Sometimes there are gems to be had on craiglist, but more often that not, just a mess-up. Worth a quick browse at times haha.

Personally, I've always preferred to view any time pieces I buy in person, but I think I should start viewing the forums here to see what is available.

There is an upcoming Vancouver GTG with watch folks from here. Search for the thread and then go. These folks will help you.

    I don't know that it is a fake, just a 2nd redial.

The dial in the send set of pictures (presumably the earlier listing) was, at the very least, touched up if not totally and incorrectly refinished. Probably done years ago. I think the movement and the case have always gone together.

Here's another example of a Ref. 2438 with an original dial:

    http://watchguy.co.uk/teardown-service-omega-bumper-28-10-ra-sc-pc-350/

    And another:

Lugs match exactly on the steel cased version above.

However, it is not a Seamaster.

    OK, a frakenwatch. My bad.

But I still think it's just a incorrect redial of a better (but still incorrect) redial.

How do we know the second redial belongs on that model? Or does it matter?
