I never thought, I would post this request.....my Sydney Watchmaker and friend of 36 years, died unexpectedly and still unexplained a few weeks ago. Still devastated. Omega specialist and Rolex Wizard with modest pricing and good turnaround times. So, here I am, looking for an Australian Watchmaker for basic work. Cleaning, mainsprings, chronographs mostly Lemania based ones and maybe Valjoux 72 .... We have a few guys on this Forum, who do that work very well without a Watchmaking degree. Fine with me as well. To start this : Tudor Caliber 390 needs rebuilding and a mainspring. You get 2 mvmts.,. So no parts needed. I can supply most parts for the future work needed, so no Omega Account necessary. PM best to keep your secret sources. Thanks for your time, fellow Down Under members. Kind regards. Achim
I've used Max Schweizer (https://www.maxswisswatch.com/) and Thomas Czibula (https://www.watchrepair.com.au/) in Sydney. Neither are cheap though, being full-time professionals running CBD repair shops. Thomas Czibula did a V72 for me. No secret sources I'm afraid, but happy to hear about any.
Either Rory Macdonald or Michael Woods are excellent watchmakers. https://www.rmacdonald.com.au/ https://woodswatchmaking.com.au/
There's an old bloke on the bottom floor of Bowman House corner Adelaide and Edward st in the Brisbane CBD, fast turnaround times, handles too hard basket cases for other major repairers in Brisbane but not sure if he takes things by mail. He's the best in Brisbane at the moment by a considerable margin but probably only 3 or so years off retirement unfortunately.
Yes, would second that, old school and very fast and not expensive for the great work he does, but as said, is retiring (in two years when I spoke with him last week)
I use a local guy on the gold coast. Great work, good pricing and quick enough turn around. Does a lot of wholesale work for jewellers, and have seen him doing good work on high end modern and vintage.
I use Rory Macdonald regularly but also Adam Lewis in Perth. Adam is probably the more Omega focused and he just restored my MKii Telestop. Both are excellent watchmakers and lovely blokes to deal with. Cheers.
Reviving this old thread because I have recently tried to contact Rory MacDonald by phone without luck and I now see that his website is down. Is anyone able to confirm that he is still working? @Tonyash, @ATracyWatches? Cheers in advance
Was there 2 weeks ago, defo still going. He has two watches of mine. Best to email, he is a one man shop and does not always get to the phone.
I use Kevin at “A Watch in Time” nice bloke absolutely love’s Omegas http://www.awatchintime.com.au/ he’s in Canterbury Rd Heathmont a suburb of Melbourne Not cheap and not short turn around
Sorry to hear Achim. When mine passed. My dial refinisher also retired around the same time. I just stopped restoring That and watches started to double and triple in prices off Ebay DON
