Any Aussies had experience with the process involved when a seller outside Aus. doesn't apply GST at the time of a sale? Previous experience with import duties involved much form filling, or possibly the use of an import agent but maybe things have been streamlined given GST applies equally to everything?

Post offices aren't involved as agents so I'm guessing there could be delays at Customs. Anybody been through the hoops?

Thanks. From the link you've given the process looks unchanged for goods over $1,000.It's not an insurmountable process but its reliability doesn't fill me with confidence either.

I haven't heard of anybody having their goods stopped & GST requested. I have heard unofficially the Border Force is not yet staffed up to follow the new law.

That sounds right. Sub $1,000 or maybe more to the point, sub $10 there's nothing to be gained in terms of revenue but I imagine they're vigilant above the $1,000 mark

If GST is not levied at POS for a sub-$1000 item, you will not have to pay GST. There is no arrangement or intention for Customs to levy that tax.
