Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase this watch and just have a few questions about the watch.

Does anyone know if the dial/crown engraving is factory to AP? I'm talking about the rope like engraving.

Is the bracelet factory to this watch?

I live in New Zealand, so I know its been here for a while, just wondering if there are any experts out there who could tell me a bit more as APs are not my strong brand.

It's all original, including the bracelet. Ref. BA.25549.498, they made 156 pieces of that particular model between 1977-1991. Crown looks right, ditto hands and dial. Serial number places it in mid-80s. Looks in very good condition overall. Price at that time was around CHF 30,000. If considering it plan for an overhaul in the range of US$2,000 if you don't know its history, it's a thin movement with hanging barrel and it requires care to have it run properly. And make sure it fits, little opportunity for adjustment on the bracelet. Overall, it's a clean example from that era, not many perpetual calendars were being made other than AP and a few from PP, VC and Breguet.

Here is what the perpetual calendar mechanism and movement look like.

What do you think a good price for the watch may be?
These watches on a strap could be had for years at around USD 10,000, they were one of the great bargains if one was looking for a perpetual calendar watch. Now they have all gone up to over USD 20,000. The bracelet often detracts from its value as many people would prefer to have it on a strap as it is more wearable. I would guess a fair price would be something between USD 18-22k, but if they have had this piece for awhile they may be willing to let it go closer to what they have invested in it. What are they asking for it?

They're looking to get around 17k for it. I guess after a service it may not be such a good buy after all. I do agree it is a bit garish but maybe I can find an up and coming rapper that may be interested. Thanks
