Auction Omega

Hello everyone, first post here ! ( and apologies for my bad english )

So, i may have the opportunity to buy one of the watch i dreamed for, an omega speedmaster ( i need something that i can wear easily, different than my 2 universal )

And i saw this opportunity, an omega speedmaster, but there is some issue with it, the descripttion of the seller is :
to be restored, it is reported that parts of the mechanism have been changed. Movement blocked

The auction estimation is between 250 and 500 Bucks, may the auction willl go up to 750/1000.

so, the question are :

  • What is the maximum price i should aim for in order to not lose too much money ?
  • It is possible to repair it ? and does it worth to repair it in comparaison to buy a pre-owned omega for like 3/5K ?

Some photo here, and im waiting for more picture/detail from the seller ( particularly photo of the movement )

Thanks everyone in advance !

More pictures are needed for a detailed assessment but you aren’t going to get that for $1000.

Given the text you quoted above, unless you can confirm otherwise you have to assume that it needs a full service and has had a replacement movement so unless you can get movement pictures to confirm the situation im struggling to see how this will stay at a price that gives a good risk:reward ratio

Forget about these numbers. Any Speedy will sell above 1k

looks like it is a mid 90s Speedmaster with Serial number on the lug, a tritium dial and the bracelet. i wonder what was done to the movement. the good thing about it is that you can see right away if the movement was replaced if the case serial number does not match the movement serial number.

Buying a Speedmaster advertised as “ for repair” with unknown issues is only for those with considerable knowledge and experience with this watch. Otherwise you risk spending a lot to “fix” the problems ending up with a watch worth far less than the total invested.

I would not buy a watch like this that has issues and will need service to an unknown extent. Save your pennies and buy a good pre-owned Speedmaster, it will save you money and aggravation in the long run.

It would be good to know which parts were changed and why, it is too vague like the auctioner put it. Can't you ask for a movement picture?

If it needs minor repairs and the movement has not been swapped, you could try going for it but for sure it will sell for more than 3.

So, i don't get any response from the vendor, BUT, i get it for a little less than €800, €920 with all of the auction fees.

At this price, I honestly don't expect much. My only fear would be that the movement would be fake or completely irreparable.

However, at €920 all-inclusive, I still think I got a very good deal.

I now have 48 hours to confirm my purchase; I don't think I'm going to make a huge mistake at this price.

What do you think?

Sounds very sketchy at that price to be honest, so I would double check that the platform is reliable but I guess you checked that already?

It’s way below the market value and even if you need to source a movement you’ll still be very much under

Yup, im scared about that, getting a fake one.

However, I can have it certified, and if necessary, take action against the auction house and the expert if it turns out that the watch is not in conformity.

However, it remains to be seen whether the parts have been replaced...

Do what you wish, but I think that you're going to regret this purchase. This looks like a 3590.50 from the early 1990's. I can't imagine get a good 3590.50 from less than $4,000 and probably more.

The listing is hard to interpret but I am guessing that the watch is not running (“movement blocked”). Hopefully it will be a simple repair. But you should be fine financially even if there is no movement at all.

I have 48 hours to decide, but the auction house apparently can't send me a photo, which seems rather odd to me...

So I'm appealing to those who know something about this subject, to find out what price is a good deal.

If the watch is legit it’s a great price. If it’s fake, you’ve been scammed. I don’t know what you are expecting from us. You are the buyer, it’s your risk and your reward.

If the watch is fake, I could easily take legal action against the auction house.

But now I just have to wait until I receive it, and then the time will come to assess it. I'll provide an update at that time, with photos of the watch/movement, etc...

Yeah, you're this far in, seems like we will be waiting expectantly!

Btw, is this a bigger auction house, or something small where something like this could get under the radar?

Not a huge auction, but tit has been sold throught a bigger network, who regroup lot more and reliablle auction house, so i think that the seller is legit, taking in account the plateform where he sold it.

Hopping for the best now ....
