Does 3K starting bid seem a bit high for this watch?

    1 of only 10,007.
Like the description states, very rare. Indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them are languishing unsold in A D's safes somewhere.

    Hi all,

I have noticed a lot times when I see any Bond issue watch the sellers always seem to have a hefty premium for the Bond connection as apparently its not just watch collectors that are the market for these but also Bond collectors to. Personally I don't consider a run of 10,007 watches to be that Limited or rare but that may just be me. But these Bond editions do seem to command a higher price I have seen some Bond PO's at really high asking prices but nothing as high as a new SAS PO that was @£25,000!!!!

I just don't understand why anyone would buy this type of sea master over the 2254.50. The hands are weird and it doesn't seem balanced. Just my opinion. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413905795.192908.jpg

I love Bond, but i would never wear something that carried 007 on it. Personally, i see that as the passtime of 11 year old boys. If anything, the need to brand the watch with this livery cheapens it in my opinion.

100 percent agreed. I had a similar conversation with someone that just wanted to buy the seamster because of the Bond connection...I sent him to get a vintage Rolex Explorer and buy himself a NATO strap...that's what Ian Fleming wore and wrote about. The first movies tried a little by going along with Rolex, the rest is marketing. I still have a seamster 300 (black not Blue) and a PO, but not because of Bond,,,but because it's a perfect watch.

Fleming did wear an Explorer, but not until he'd written 10 Bond novels. You could argue that the movie Submariner and Fleming's Explorer came into the Bond world at roughly the same time. It's estimated he bought his explorer somewhere around '61 or '62, the same time when Dr. No started filming. To me, there are two proper Bond watches, a ref 6538 Sub, and an early ref 1016 Explorer I (potentially on an expanding bracelet). Sorry, I'm a Bond nerd.

Interesting. Thank you for the notes. I went along and did some reading because I seemed to remember the Explorer being mentioned in the books but it is not, you're right. The oNly reference given is Oyster Perpetual, and not on all the books. And as you note Ian Fleming referenced the Rolex probably to line up with the earlier movies. In any event. Rolex seems to be a good Iconic choice, both the explorer for the mountain scenes and the submariner for the diving. Explorer would seem more dynamic in terms of daily wear in all environments in 1950/60's But for sure not a blue faced Omega with a OO7 stamped dial, back etc. Based on your post I did some reading and found this really amusing article: http://commanderbond.net/9409/found-james-bonds-rolex.html
