Since we're trying to do something unfeasable in these two threads.......

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/support-independent-watchmakers.30491/

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/watch-collectors-of-the-world-unite.30498/

..... let's try to force every seller of a vintage watch to lower their prices to sane levels! Should we petition eBay to refuse certain models over certain Buy It Now prices? Should there be a "luxury tax" on any vintage watch that's listed on the internet above a certain asking price? Let's hear some more ideas on how to force the impossible to happen!

Can we fund an army of New Jersians to make road trips and do some 'convincing'?

Hell, I don't know. I was just caught up in the blind enthusiasm of the other threads for a second.

What a great socialist type idea. Put limits on what someone can get for their products. Yeah, price controls. They have never worked before and never will. Unless you want to corner the black market after this goes into affect. I'm all in on that.

@ulackfocus those'll do, I'll admit my emoji game is weak. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I am a bad millennial.
I would've gotten creative, something like this:

The joke ->
    .
    .
    .
    .
    You -> ::confused2::

Its much simpler to force the bloggers to stop promoting the brands WE like.
I vote for an OmegaForums lynch mob attack on Hodinkee headquarters!
We upper middleclass to lower upperclass geeks shall eradicate the unworthy upper-upper class spendoscenti who are buying up our watches and inflating prices!

disclaimer: i've purchased two watches featured on Hodinkee

    But let's get those bastards!

I unwittingly purchased a watch featured on Hodinkee, but in my defense it was a month afterwards and the extra case / bezel the watch was originally offered with were sold separately. Still, I'll volunteer for the First OF-Hodinkee Contention of 2015! :coffee:

Would love to join in but I am on a iPad and last thing I want to do is upset Apple with talk of monopolies and brand service only....

In my admiration of a new-to-me term, I Googled "spendoscenti" to determine its origin.
It brought me here. Kudos to you for creating my new favorite expression!

    I can see it now......

Tang races - ΩF on one side of the table, Hodinkers on the other (I'll anchor)...... or a long and strategic round of Dunk the Duchess...... or even quarters (I'm a quarters sniper, using my special patented roll off the back of my hand method).

Next comes darts, then ping pong, and maybe even pool / billiards......

Hell, any excuse to drink during the competition!

This is a much more fun Contention than I had envisioned - I imagined pitchforks (pallet forks?) - but I hereby endorse your idea 100%.

As for quarters, one night a number of years ago I successfully managed to turn a fun night of quarters into a gambling bonanza by betting my friend $5 that he couldn't make a third shot in a row, after hitting it twice. He did; I managed to win it back by hitting 5 in a row next round. Four hours later I was up $20 and everyone was placing bets all around. One of my favorite memories so far! I am apparently a degenerate.

we now will have the numbers to storm Dinkee HQ and use Clymer as a bargaining chip to get our parts from Swatch Group.
Before his release we will have him sign a statement whereby he will declare Patek and Rolex the only watch brands that are downright cool.
    Seems simple to me...

I'm not sure what's worse, the price of vintage pieces going through the roof OR sales where people say, "This watch is for sale.....make me your best offer and I'll decide later" with no damn sales price at all!
