Today a group of four people attempted a robbery of a guy at klocksnack.se (translated watch talk).

They jumped him in his neighborhood on his way to the buss, he fought back and took some punches and blows but was not seriously harmed and they did not get his watch.

The thing that sticks out here is that he had an open Instagram account and a unique last name which makes him easy to find in Sweden. So I guess an warning goes out not to have a profile name that can identify you or an open account. This guy had some nice expensive pieces on his Instagram account (like Facebook but just pictures).

I wonder if we'll see more robbery or home robberys connected to social media...

Thanks Daniel B, the internet can be a dangerous place when information is just a bit to free. Simple things like my own avatar in a small town and it doesn't take a lot to figure out who I am.
BUT can I change my avatar

The world is getting worse and worse all the time. Pretty soon "A Clockwork Orange" won't be fiction anymore.

Yep, make sure you have the GPS tags turned off in your camera phone photo settings too. Otherwise anything posted on the net contains the metadata showing the GPS location the photo was taken and can lead crooks right to your house.

This is exactly why we don't collect or store member information when there's no reason to. We don't need to know your age, sex, etc. Anything you provide is voluntary (as it should be).

Future versions of ΩF will also automatically strip and permanently discard metadata from any images uploaded to our servers, which includes the GPS coordinates if they're present.

Yeah, it should help. We'll also run a script on all existing image attachments to strip out the same info.

Almost none of the software platforms which forums run on remove image metadata. I've never understood how the developers could overlook something like that.

I always found it amazing when folks in various formats ( not here) were startled when I could tell them what camera, lens they own and where they lived, traveled, etc., after receiving their images. Of course this never amazes folks in camera forums:rolleyes:

Yeap. Dennis I still remember how pissed your were when I first posted a picture of your Jersey place on another forum. Of course most everyone has seen it by now. (Yes Mike picked out his car for him  )

See why I had to buy that snowblower? :p After the staff cuts, there just isn't enough manpower to clear the driveway.

Yes and why you had to sell your entire Patek collection to fund upper floor renovations. :(

And while we're on the subject, it's time to get new tires on the truck. ;)
