Hi guys, I'm new to vintage Omega. I've just come across 2 listings at similar prices.
One is a stainless steel with calibre 565, and the other is a gold-capped with calibre 562.
I've checked the case reference and calibre serial numbers and they seem matched. Both cases look already polished, I think. I'm not sure about the 2 dials.
Yes I know steel is more preferable than gold-capped. Anyway I would like to know your remarks and overall opinions between the two. Which one do you, personally of course, prefer? And why? Thank you.

Steel one looks like a nicer overall example and would be my personal pick.

    What are the asking prices?

Steel one looks very sharp while gold-cap has been polished and has rounded edges.

@X350 XJR is correct in that it could come down to relative pricing.

Choose the one YOU like more. They are both quite nice.
The way I see it, the stainless is more casual and original but the gold is a bit dressier. Are you wearing a tie and jacket most of the time ?

The asking price is about $450 equivalent. Is it ok?
Normally I would prefer a steel case that looks more like "oyster" case, like this one. But I like to know how others personally take. What do you think?

I'd buy the one in your first photo for $450.00

Steel is nice for sure, but if you don't like the lug shape, hold off until you find the one you're looking for.

I personally like the steel one. Much better preserved watch; the case looks great. The gold one is too polished for me; if I wanted a gold-cased Seamaster this is not the one I would buy.

The main issue is that we can't tell you what you like. You can get a lot of good info about whether a watch is correct or not, whether the condition is reasonable or not, whether there's anything suspicious about a piece, stuff like that.

Only you can decide if you like a particular piece or not.

One thing I can tell you is that I am more satisfied with pieces that are correct, legit and in good condition first and foremost, the rest is really a matter of personal preference.

I would add, it pays to spend time looking at lots of different stuff.. You'll find the styles you gravitate towards, then you can focus and learn about a much narrower swath of watches. When I first got started, I was all over the place and wanted to buy many different types and styles. Luckily (?) I didn't go too wild in those early days and ended up finding my sweet spot. I will stray now and then, but in much more controlled manner.

Thank you very much! Your words are really of wisdom and experience.
I've just got the vintage Omega bug, and pulled off the 1st one: a 9k solid gold Dennison-cased Omega with a 30mm handwound 268 calibre.
Actually I have a personal preference on "oyster-style" cases (not sure if that's what people would call them) - such as the likes of Aqua Terra, or Rolex's Oysters, etc.
That's why I felt in love at once with the Seamaster ref. 166010 or 14701, etc. and still couldnt find a good one.
But this steel Seamaster, I first saw it a couple of weeks ago. The lug shape is not one that I always like, but then it starts to grow on me...
Maybe I would try it on wrist to see how it looks in flesh.

I like the stainless steel one just a bit better, and $450 is not a bad price
