Hi SM chronometer lovers, the postman brought some early x-mas present (you know, I buy the presents myself, so I receive what I really like) The gold has caught some tarnish - hence the rich color (some call it patina...) This was one of the reasons why I was brave at heart and decided to buy it although the few provided pics were crappy, far too small and a little blurry, no picture of the back... When a case looks like this I can be sure that it had not been pimped up (overpolished, etc) to gain a better price. The watch was offered at a brick and mortar auction and looks as if it was untouched for a long time - no watchmaker marks inside, no traces of a buffing wheel. Crispy lug edges - yummy! Here is the movement: Only some faint superficial scratches, nothing serious. No wear to the plating on the edge of the oscillating weight which is a good signal that the bearing and post are in good shape. As you can see the case still has it´s original lead gasket. And here is the case back Still with the machining marks and only very faint hairline scratches from handling. So what do we have here? Any guess what ref. it is? enjoy Erich
Notice the Roman numerals scribed around the inner edge of the case - 484. The last three numerals of the movement serial number, or the last three of the case serial number?
Pure coincidence!! However I must say when I saw your unassuming thread title I was pretty certain there would be something special inside. Needless to say I wasn´t disappointed
