A team of burglars wearing fancy duds and animal masks smashed their way inside a high-end jewelry store at the Bellagio Resort & Casino during a Hollywood-style heist early Saturday in Las Vegas, authorities and witnesses said.

At least five to seven people wearing either suits or tuxedos used sledgehammers to smash their way into the store just before 3 a.m. police said.

“It is like a movie, it’s just crazy,” Las Vegas Metropolitan’s Lt. Carlos Hank told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

At least one suspect was in custody following the robbery, detectives said Saturday, without releasing additional information.

One witness posted to Twitter a picture of a person wearing a pig mask, standing underneath a Rolex sign.

“Literally just witnessed an armed robber in a pig mask at a Rolex store at the Bellagio & then his arrest,” the witness, user Kir_Kamil wrote on Twitter.

Terrified guests and gamblers fled the high-end casino, thinking there was an active shooter.

But initial reports of a shooting proved unfounded, cops said, saying the sound of the sledgehammers cracking into the shop’s jewelry cases were likely mistaken for gunshots.

But Hank said the thieves were armed. He could not confirm the specifics of the masks, and did not immediately identify which store was hit.

Police said the crooks fled into a nearby parking garage.

They tried to drive off, but when the vehicle didn’t start, they tried to carjack someone and then tried to flee on foot, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Officials said the store was not open when things got hog wild.

The Bellagio is home to several high-end jewelry and watch stores, including Omega, Tiffany, Tesorini, and Harry Winston.

Well that is quite interesting. I don't think bacon grease works all that well as breaking grease

A little over an hour ago a junkie tried breaking into my house (actually, my backyard). It woke me up, (and the mrs and our baby...grrrr!) and I got him right as he broke three of my fence plats, trying to jump over my fence.
I'm still so mad right now, that I can't bring myself to laugh about the bellagio story, as I normally would have...

I keep my watches in the safe, BUT I do keep the safe open at night in case a junkie might break into my pad.

I'm more into handguns, but I have something very similar, too.
If the POS tried breaking in thru the house door or window, that safe would have been opened in a few seconds.

Most likely where the second amendment isn't trampled by a deep blue state/local government.

Got a call yesterday from someone wanting to sell me a burglar alarm. I told the caller I didn't need one. At night, or when we're not home, any burglar would be alarmed by my protection which has free rein of the house!
