Are the hands and crown correct for this Seamaster 14700 1 SC ?

Hi,

I was looking at this today before it goes for service and noticed that the minute hand is slightly shorter than the minute track. All three hands have aged similarly in terms of oxidation and aged lume. Lume on hour hand glows weakly for about 15 seconds.

Also would like to know if crown is correct.

TIA

Todd

That is quite the uncommon dial for that reference and perhaps is not original. The crown probably isn't, but that's OK, they were routinely changed at service and the original design was long discontinued.

The 14700 I once owned had dauphine hands and the minute track was to the outside of the markers. Wish I had that watch back.

OK thanks. Hopefully more folks will weigh in.

And now a bit concerned that the dial may not belong to that case.

Purchased back in my newb collecting days, prior to me joining this forum. And definitely not properly researched prior to purchase, therefore no great surprise if it's a franken..

I have to say I've never seen that dial in this reference either.

I suspect the hands are service replacements.

OK, and thanks, all good to know. I was going to have it serviced and put it on the block.

Will have to wait until I can figure this one out...

Can anyone venture a guess as to which reference would have a similar dial?

The hands appear relumed regardless of originality. And I too am curious what caliber is under the hood.

I’m not sure how helpful this is but Chrono24 is offering this 14700 and both the alpha lance hands and the crown look original to me

Thought I’d post my 1959 14704 with a cal 591, which has it’s original crown (I think 😀)

Most likely a US gold filled case model like the ones above.

Alpha hands are also correct when with earlier serial numbers.

Beauty! What's the model and caliber?

Yes, I would agree. An old relume based on very weak glow for 15 seconds.

My 14700 2 SC has a cal. 550 (US import, if I understand correctly), dauphine hands, and a crown like the others shared here. This was it before it got it's new crystal.

So based on what I'm seeing here, looks like I've plucked another franken from my (greatly diminished) collection....

Sh.t..
