Hey guys, newbie here.
Is there specific spec to be considered “moon watch”? I’m under the impression all Speedmaster are moon watches. I’m looking at the reissue 60th anniversary Speedmaster to add to my box.

I’m showing off the 60th speedy to my boss at home. She asked if it’s a “moon watch”. I said “of course, boss!!!”

Am I wrong on this too??

Neither the modern reissue nor the original 2915 was qualified for space flight, nor was it ever used in space or on the moon.

Who cares if they are “moon watches”, it’s a meaningless term anyway. Your watch looks great, which is all that matters.

Well, if you wanna really be technical, only the watches used by the few Astronauts are *really* moonwatches...

The rest are simply overpriced consumer luxury items built by the thousands in a factory somewhere in Europe that exploit the fame of the Apollo program to sell outdated technology to watch nerds.

Agreed, but I cant tell my wife that!!! She’ll reallocate my allowance to our kids’ college fund, or something equally unimportant.

 

Many Speedmasters are not 'moonwatches'. Any of the co-ax automatics, for instance. Also reduced Speedmasters.

if your speedmaster will be the particular all ss reference for the 50th anniversary of the moonwatch with a new 321, there will no further arguments.

 

I'd say that it would have to have the word 'Professional' on the dial to be considered as a 'moon watch', but then we also get into pre-moon territory ...

 

Nah mate!..... The 'Real Moon Watch' is the Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012-65.

Well... I rather like your "Shiny" Speedmaster. I like the bezel and the hands.

As for my old Speedy??? We've had it in our family for nearly 50 but it will be offered for sale, on Omega Forums, sometime soon. Hopefully the new owner will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing with it on their wrist.
