    I have seamaster pro 300.

I have made a mark on the AR coating which is reasonably big.

    What are my options ?

    Are they :
    a) Can it get re coated somewhere ?
    b) I have heard others remove the whole coating and being that mine is double sided would it matter. If so is this a service anywhere ?
    c) Can it be repaired at service time - 2 years away for me
    d) I dont believe a whole new crystal is required is it ?

    Thanks

a - heard of people giving the crystal to an optician and having it coated there, but never tried it myself.
b - easy to remove by yourself, and you would still have the internal AR coating, so still okay but not as effective as having both sides done
    c - yes
d - yes - Omega doesn't recoat or remove coatings, so the only choice from them is a new crystal

Diamond paste and a microfiber cloth/terry towel?

Or like a buffer type machine? (Cause I don’t have one of those)

Depends on how well the coating is adhered, and what quality the coating is. I have had to use a buffing wheel, but have also done it just with a cloth by hand.

Although diamond paste works, it will sceatch the bezel if not protected properly. Also, it is a physical demanding job. Requires a lot of sweat. Not as simple as others claim.

Wouldn't diamond paste damage/unnecessarily polish the sapphire crystal itself?

I've successfully removed the AR coating from a DSotM before by mixing Cape Cod + Scotchbrite pad. Took about 5 mins to do.

Polywatch and some elbow grease did it for me.

Not at all, as long as you use a fine paste - 1 micron or below. To remove any significant material from sapphire you would need to use a much coarser paste, and it would take a very long time based on how long it takes to remove a scratch using diamond pastes...

Not sure how much on your particular watch, but I just had mine replaced through Omega on my 2254 and it was $250.00

    Hi

For a SM 300 Pro, wonder what the cost is in GBP £.

    Thanks anyway Bimmerman77

What does the crystal look like with mark in the AR coating? Can you post a pic?

Did they do anything else besides replacing the crystal?

Which SMP is this? Most are internally coated only AFAIK. Unless it is a very recent model you may well have scratched the sapphire. Current UK price for an SMP crystal is around £115 plus VAT plus fitting from an authorised placed like STS or OSC so around £200 all in. That would be for a 2254, 2531 or similar. I have removed external coatings as noted above using dia paste but be very careful to mask the metal. If a crystal is shattered, they may insist on a full service rather than just replacement because of the risk of glass particles contaminating the movement etc.

Ah ok, is it a quartz movement?
