Apollo XV 50th Anniversary where is it?

I’ve been wondering where is the Apollo XV 50th Anniversary?
As fas I can remember, we always had odd Apollos anniversary edition (I have my view why not even ones - I can’t get an opinion on that from motherland).
The anniversary was in August this, sure Covid doesn’t help but we had the chronoscope anyway.
So I wonder what everyone’s view is on that?
I’m pretty sure we will have an Apollo XVII because Gene was the last last walking on it but that’s next year’s story.
Would be nice to brainstorm about this.

I'm pretty sure they skipped it and the Apollo anniversaries are over.

Certainly a 50th Apollo 17 is on the way next year. Apollo 11, 13 and 17 seem to be the ones that get the glory. First on the moon, big screw up, last on the moon. Going forward I think the marketing folks at Omega will produce pieces to commemorate every 5 year anniversary into the foreseeable future.

Anniversaries are never over. Omega will milk this as long as collectors want to shell out the money. Too bad I'll be long gone when the 100th Apollo 11 LE comes out. 😁

Why would they skip them? It doesn't make sense to skip such a special bday. Making them unlimited to curtail prices going nuts (it failed with Snoopy III) definitively.

Apollo XV is the first LRV (Lunar Rover Vehicle), so a pretty big deal compare to 12 & 14

Agreed, that was a big deal. Maybe an LE with a rover on a subdial? Why not, they put a lander on the 50th Apollo 11. Again I think it all boils down to what Omega marketing thinks will sell.

14,15, and 16 didn’t exactly capture the worlds attention then and doesn’t really now. 17 is only noteable for being the last.

I’m not saying I agree, but that’s the facts.

In another threat it was mentionned that the lack of apollo 15 this year indicates the end of LEs, but for me i still hope for 17 next year as well as speedy tuesday 3. Indeed they are miliking the cow, but I always take a lot of joy in seeing the same watch wearing new cloths

A few of us are hoping for a 50th Apollo-soyuz in 2025.

15 might have been (unfairly) tainted by the stowaway flags affair.

75th anniversary of 11 is a guarantee.

I don't mind anniversary editions and look forward to them myself. (Nerd alert)

Sounds interesting, could you tell us a bit more about this?

I've done some searching, I found a controversy involving profiting off flown postal covers / letters, but nothing about flags?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_15_postal_covers_incident

My comment about the stowaway flags was short hand for all the items that were snuck on board. There were also flags. There have been several 3.5 x5 flown flags auctioned over the years, including this more notable one:

http://www.collectspace.com/news/news-031717a-apollo-15-secret-flags-auction.html

Personally, my thoughts are that it was overblown. I do not mean to disparage the crew nor to reopen sore wounds. My comment was to support the thought that this might be a reason why Omega did not issue an Apollo 15 LE. However, it is entirely speculation.

Edit: this speculation is probably just that. The real reason for skipping 15 might simply be Omega is over-whelmed with their current models.

I've been asking my OB for a while on the A17 50th. Manager told me there will be one for 2022 and they'll know more in January. He said he'll call me the day it launches to place an order. I'm still waiting for my A13 50th with deposit paid lol. Would be ridiculous if I get an A17 before A13.

I’m with you on the Apo XV controversy, but then you don’t produce any in that case. Personally I like the 45th but I don’t have it. On the other hand, I’m 100% sure we will get an XVII which will be nice.
I wonder if covid simply overwhelm them.

Last time I spoke with Omega Boutique they claimed too that they expect XVII next year. Not that this is confrimed but good to know that it is coming from OB too.

Well Apollo 17 seems the very last " 50th anniversary " lunar landing Speedmaster LE option... However ASTP was the most important mission.
The last few years I have been researching how the Omega watches got behind the Iron Curtain and into the Soviet-manned Space program, and later on worn during the historic Apollo Soyuz Test Project mission of July 1975...
I refer to my articles "To Russia With Love" (August 2018) and "Time Peace" (July 2020)... a more elaborate version is in the works as the Russian cosmonauts became great aficionados of Swiss-made wrist watches (between the first visit of a cosmonaut delegation to Omega HQ in Bienne (1973) and wearing Omega's ultimate space watch (ex-Alaska II Project Speedmaster in 1977) at least 30 cosmonauts were issued an Omega time peace... Speedmaster 861, Flightmaster and Speedmaster Mk III
So by 2027 we'll see the " 50th anniversary " of the use of Omega's Alaska project by Soviet-Russian cosmonauts as they wanted the best and the latest things onboard their brand new Salyut-6 space station (two docking ports, modern Orlan space suits and the ultimate space watch).

Agree 100% and the LRV on the back looks amazing.

Indeed a few years on it appears that limited editions are out and somewhat but not really limited production is in. It might take a while, but more people are able to get the watch they want eventually now.
