Interesting! I actually thought it never. Ive seen plenty of these for sale and had a few through my hands and only one had the patch which i thought was added later. I expect patch sales to be strong for a few days now lol
Yes, and when they are lost, people buy new ones. The same patch can be bought in NASA gift shops. I have two of them that were worn by Nasa workers on the project and removed from uniforms (jumpsuits) and then sold. The suits were similar to ones worn by the Astronauts. as seen here. This patch is very common, though there are also some knock-off ones seen for sale, generally of lessor quality.
BTW on the Omega and Nasa retail models the "sky" is black. On Project patches it is blue, other wise they are almost Identical. Gene Kranz's patch NASA sold patches.
Gene Krantz's I should add photos of the patches taken from Gruman (maker of the lunar landing module) Apollo 11 team blue jump suits.
I moved some posts out of a for sales post where they were cluttering and less relevant and started a new thread . This patch came out for the 35th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing.
Nice topic. For anyone interested in the history of NASA mission patches, their origin, meaning, design, and production crewpatches.com is one of the definitive sources regarding the topic from Gemini to the early shuttle missions. If you are in need of a mission patch AB Emblem has been producing the patches for NASA since the early 1970's and continues to produce the mission patches for the current Expedition missions. They are also currently producing that fine Speedmaster Signature Collection patch as well. For my international friends, if you are interested in the history and design of the early Soviet, ESA, and current Soyuz patches Spacepathces.nl has you covered. Lastly, because it's a great piece of work, here is the Apollo patch tribute created by Neil Smith.
Apollo 13 patch has striking colors with fine detail but for me the Mission Patch on the dial shows the colors better although with less detail.
Speedmaster on the Apollo 7 45th anniversary patch. This was the original patch design submitted by the crew for their mission and represents Apollo 7 rising from the ashes of Apollo 1. Edit - Thread back on track.
What's really neat are Apollo era Beta cloth patches ... amazing stuff http://crewpatches.com/crewpatches_betacloth.shtml .
Learn to know all versions of the official NASA crew patches e.g. Apollo 12 http://crewpatches.com/crewpatches_as12.shtml .
WHERE did you get the cool model of the CM post splashdown with the Navy help? AWESOME. I want one! I think @Mad Dog wants one as well!
