I hope someone can help me. Does this Speedmaster have a display back? I can see the medallion on the back in pictures but I've also read that this model has a display back. Can an expert or owner clarify? MTIA!
Technically its both, the caseback is actually a sapphire display back but the mission patch has been painted on the inside of the sapphire to give that image. So it is a sapphire display back but its painted over.
Just a bit of clarification. The case back is actually a clear sapphire back with an acrylic insert on which is printed the Apollo 11 patch and inserted under the case back. It is not painted directly on the sapphire case back itself. This is also done on the original Snoopy watch and the Gemini 4 limited edition. The Gemini 4 50th anniversary watch may have this as well but it has not been produced yet. Here are the inserts for the Apollo 11 and GT -4 watches.
