New to Omega and recently bought the Moonwatch reference 310.30.42.50.01.002. I have an opportunity to buy either the Apollo 8 or DSOM reference 311.92.44.51.01.003. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

A8 is distinctive in so many ways - I honestly think it will be seen in 2072 as a vintage classic. If that helps.

Get the Apollo 8, it won't be made forever. It was made for the 50th anniversary of the flight, 1968. It's been in production for four years, I predict its run is coming to an end.

Depends on what you want, as always

A8 is cool but for me kind of gimmicky. All the variations that came out, including grey side were all derivations of the original.

I believe the original DSOTM will be the iconic one.
So clean.

Besides aesthetics, are you looking for an automatic or another manual wind or no preference? I would also recommend trying either/both on in person if possible as they wear very different than the traditional moonwatch

I was in my OB last week and they advised me that the A8 production has now stopped. They had one left in stock and were told by HQ that no others would be coming now.

Not surprising, it's been mostly out of stock on the USA website for the past year. The A8, and companion Alinghi, were the only old 1861, non-coaxial, based movements still being made, Time for them to go. We don't know how many A8s were made, but I don't think it was huge oweing to the special treatment of the movement. These will become collectible going forward, imo.

I have a DSOTM Black Black, but the color combo on the Apollo 8 is just…wow. Mine just doesn’t pop like that one, but I still love the subdue black on black
