    Hi

Been lucky enough to get the Apollo 11 50th anniversary speedmaster last week.I was wondering if any of you folks think there will be a Apollo 12 50th anniversary speedy launched,it was the same year after all.

    Thanks

What essentially killed public memory ( to any great degree) of Apollo 12 was a couple of basic things. One is... They weren’t...First that is. In most most people’s minds it was been there...done that. Second, Alan Beans’ misfortune with Video camera all but ruined any live coverage of the lunar eva’s. Touring the Moon by radio, if you will! Just Slightly more exciting than a plane trip to Omaha.
So, if Not for the extreme Artistic talent of Alan Bean and his vast collection of work... We all might not have had the chance to share the Joy of Both Pete and Al doing some great work on the lunar surface.
Alan Beans art books are an absolutely amazing experience to page through. A sample is shown below. Also - View the HBO series From the Earth to the Moon. Especially Apollo 12s’ episode...Is That All There Is?
    It’s a masterpiece.
I’d love Omega to Celebrate Apollo 12 with a Pete, Dick, and Alan Watch! 78A85ED3-B63A-4383-8761-BF78921D5823.jpeg

Ain't going to happen. Apollo 12 was stuck between Apollo 11 (the first) and Apollo 13 (a real emergency), they were a victim of circumstances. No real interest for an Apollo 12 watch I'm afraid.

They used the 50th anniversary of on her Majesty's service to do an anniversary edition, would it really be beyond the realm of possibilities they do a A12 50th?

Not beyond the realm of possibility, but I just don't think Omega would do well with this type of watch. How many would be interested? Not many I'm afraid, it's not worth their effort considering the Apollo 13th anniversary is coming. There were three big moon flights......Apollo 8 (first to the moon), 11 (first landing on the moon), and 13 (an emergency mission), the other ones were 'business as usual' with no dramas. Omega has focused their efforts on Apollo 8 and 11 for the 50th anniversary, nothing yet for the Apollo 13.

@Evitzee I agree the 3 big ones are as you already stated, I don't want there to be more LE's anyway but you have to admit the recent bond edition is quite a stretch by Omega.

Don't believe there could be an A12 Speedmaster as there's already the A12 mission logo Speedmaster in The Missions series...
    Omega didn't even think about "" 50 years Alaska Project "" ... October 1969 tot October 2019
Much more chance for a 50th Apollo 13 and the NASA Snoopy award ! ::popcorn::

I suppose it must be something in my psyche that shows more interest in the following rather than the first (though in saying that I got a Apollo 11 50th anniversary speedy 3 weeks ago from my AD lol) Apollo 12 did have issues as mentioned but they managed a precision landing on the moon within walking distance of Surveyor 3.Went to a talk Richard Gordon gave in Caledonia University 8-9 years ago, found myself thinking this man went to the Moon with 2 other Astronauts, talk about the right stuff.Grew up watching Apollo as a kid heady days!

also don't forget about 14 and 16 - never really explored by Omega... it seems the focused on the odds (11-13-15-17) ;)

    Based on the latest 50th LE (James Bond Seamaster for a film that Omega wasn't in), then I suspect that the following will happen (he says with his tongue firmly in his cheek ;) );

Apollo 12 50th - Yes but running a touch late, dial will feature a map of the moon with the landing site highlighted in red gold but the watch will be announced in time to buy for Christmas

Apollo 13 50th - Not going to happen as far too many people want one so why create something that everyone wants

Apollo 14 50th - Yes announced during 2021 - A brightly coloured watch dial to celebrate being the first mission that broadcast coloured images from the moon's surface

Apollo 15 50th - Yes announced during 2021 - Special edition featuring a silver Lunar Rover to celebrate first use of vehicle on the moon.

Apollo 16 50th - Yes announced during 2022 - Gold plated Astronaut in space to celebrate EVA

Apollo 17 50th - Not going to happen as NASA stopped the Apollo program so Omega have decided to sulk as they cannot do any more LE's

Except the scuttlebutt is that the 50th Apollo 13 will NOT be Snoopy based. Then what?
