Yesterday I visited a local luxury pre owned watch store. I saw AP Royal Oak 15300 similar to picture below (picture is from chrono 24 NOT the one I saw).
It was offered at USD 14,000. I am drooling and sorely tempted. Is it a fair price or too high ?

Does it come with all the paperwork and boxes? 14000 for that model isn't a bad deal but not great. It looks like a 36mm size.

Oh and another thing is check the lines of the bezel and edges to see if it is still pronounced or polished

Yes it is complete. The watch that I saw is 39 mm (not that picture).

I checked it, still very sharp. It seems the previous owner 'baby sit' the watch. The strap is not in good condition, though. That's problem with tropical air. High humidity kills croc skin too.

Btw I pass on this one due to budget consideration. But boy I would like to have one.

And that's not a watch you can put any strap on. I can only imagine what AP charges for a strap with the special end - anyone know? $500? $800?

There's always aftermarket, plenty of very high quality strap makers cater to the AP market.

Those ::censored:: special proprietary strap.......... It is offered from USD 300 to 600 in chrono 24. The gold deployant is USD 1500, bu I think the old one can be used again.

My father owns this '80s mid-size (31mm or so) example. Dennis has seen it in the "flesh". It's heavy. He really doesn't wear it anymore. Not really my thing, though.

You could also consider a 14800BA. In general, they're much cheaper 2nd hand and the strap fits more natural and elegant to the watch.

    Here's my ex:

No worries! :) But... Is it?

Yes indeed, 36mm. Perfect size imo (for a gold watch most certainly)!

Was in the local high end watch store the other day (AP dealers) talking to my buddy the watch manager. He told me that when looking at a Royal Oak you really need to be careful that the bezel is perfect. These guys have several wonderfully expensive and precision polishing machines and are as good at refinishing high end watches as anyone including patching nicks and holes and keeping edges sharp like new...but they can't do a Royal Oak so they send them to AP who has a special machine and who charge $3,000 for a clean and refin. I will not be buying an AP Royal Oak anytime soon.
