I think it’s a lot of money for a watch with a basic Chinese movement.
You are entitled to your opinion of course, but the overall build quality, design and wrist presence is outstanding for the money. Hardly a “basic” Chinese movement as a chronograph and it’s nicely finished.

For me that Seagull ST chronograph movement is a basic movement. The design is a copy and every part is made cheaper and with ‘it runs so it’s good’ quality finishing. This type of movement is known for issues, and, while I’m convinced they will run well for a certain amount of time, they will not do so for decades. In my view they are not well-crafted, beautiful, rugged, durable, worthwhile. And I know, don’t expect wonders at a certain pricepoint but for me the solutions that for example Dan Henry offers are more appealing. I wonder, if the watch would have been more appealing to most at a 200 euro higher pricepoint but with a swiss movement inside. Don’t ask me which one though.

I don’t disagree. Move the price point 200 Euro and go Swiss. That’s what might have enticed me more. They have no problem selling watches though.

IMO the main problem is there isn't any good alternative to the Seagull movement. A Valjoux 7750 could be used for sure, but the design would totally suffer from the additional thickness.

Personally I don't like most of the Swiss chronograph on the market precisely because of the ridiculous thickness of the case. The only watches I can think of using Valjoux while keeping reasonably low profile are some Speedmaster automatic, thanks to the design.

i like the dan henry's too (and own a 1937 chrono) but the 2 simply can't be compared (nor are they meant to be given the price point). dan henry for me is a fun mess around watch with a spectacular dial. the baltic for the money is in a completely different class. i am not yearning for a better movement. . what i would love to see dan henry try is a manual wind movement like baltic and go up in price a bit

Interesting watches that seem to have a loyal following. I would certainly dive into one but the exchange rate to CAD is prohibitive. The beautiful Bi Compax chronos are almost CAD $ 900.00. A little steep for a Seagull equipped chronograph.

I'll keep an eye out for one on the secondary market...

A blue gilt Aquascaphe is definitely on my short list of watches I really want. Along with an X-33 and a Damasko DA42.
