Seller made a tidy profit. This exact same watch sat untouched on ebay for weeks at a much lower price about 2 years ago. A few of us here, myself included, foolishly passed on it at an even lower price.

It actually sat off and on for about 6 months.

Interesting stuff. Amazing what a matching bracelet, a little clean and some decent photos can do. Seller has done a good job there.

I think the experienced omega collectors knew exactly what this was - the tarnish and the light scratches if anything enhanced the value instead of reducing it. I was pursuing other omegas at the time so my attention and resources were elsewhere but in retrospect, one simply cannot have enough nice waffle dial constellations.

Was this clearly the same exact watch which sat for months unsold? Glen says this was the watch's original bracelet, and the second watch that Steve shows is with strap.

Funny that I just looked at Glen's auctions last night and it wasn't yet listed.

It is the exact same watch. The back with its engraved initials is the giveaway.

Yep, exact same watch, as Mike says the engraving is the key. I watched that baby so long I feel like I owned it. :D
If it was up today for the original BIN price I would have hit it. I actually I did make an offer once, a reasonable one (for the time) at that.
It was for sale more then once, never on a bracelet. Seller was in Kentucky I believe.

I should charge for historical provenience. ;)

You would buy something like this even with the engraving on the back?

Yes the condition is exceptional -in my mind that trumps the engraving handily.

May I ask if the asking price was reasonable? I was tempted to hit the BIN when I saw it before the listing ended. But I wasn't too sure and I chickened out.:(

Are you serious that anyone should pay this much money on the basis of two photographs, no movement or case back inside shots, no proper description, and no cal reference, serial numbers or date? It may be a very nice watch, but really the buyer has hardly any info to make a judgement on . . . And that engraving is pretty naff - it would certainly put me off.

There are three things we love around here:
    - original black dials. Check.
    - guilloche dials. Check.
    - those hour markers. Check

To get all three in one, ::love::

I would say to get a case AND dial in that condition would be considered uncommon...Perhaps even grail to some members here..

I can still recall, this same eBayer sold an Omega Constellation in stainless-steel, totally mint and unused condition, some four or five years ago. According to him, the case had never been opened (unable to recall whether the watch comes with papers or not). I can remember the dial is two-color guilloche silver.

How much he sold for? A whopping US$10 000.00!

    Thank-you.

I feel that $3000. is a little high in today's market, $2200-2500 might be a little closer. But it is not just a nice watch, it is a very desirable watch. Also understand that some of us are very familiar with this watch and have seen many more images of it inside and out.
