I have a watch with an Omega Caliber 861, with a broken balance, and asking around watchmakers are asking $400-500 just for the part. Anyone know where I can get one cheaper? I was thinking $100-$150? I've been looking on ebay for over a month with no luck. Thanks
If I recall correctly the only difference between the 861 and 1861 was the addition of a jewel and change to rhodium plating, I wonder if an 1861 balance would be easier to source and compatible?
I had a similar situation once and what I did was wait till I found a trashed watch that was running well. I was able to get all the pieces I needed for a fraction of the cost...Just an idea.
@ dsio: I looked into it, but was unable to find an info on how compatibile they are. Additionally, parts for 1861 is equally difficult to find and expensive. @ ulackfocus: It's base on the Lemania 1873, and is equally difficult to find cheap parts for. @ a1watch: Currently doing this but the waiting game is taking a bit more time than I wanted. To compund it watch collecting is on the rise or something, I've notice price are going up like crazy even for spare parts. Broken watches on ebay with the balance working is going in the hundreds to $1000 mark.
Jules Borel shows the complete balance for the cal. 861 at $210. Now, whether they actually have it in stock is another matter. http://www.julesborel.com/ Hope this helps, gatorcpa
