Hi guys. No idea if this is the right place for this so move if needed. I'm close to buying a speedy from this guy in Georgia USA on chrono24. Does anyone have any info good or bad about him?
He's a registered dealer in the USA.
Cheers.

Registered dealer of what? Unless he is an authorized dealer for new watches, there is so such thing as a “registered dealer” in the USA.

I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but the poses with "flash" cars suggest an influencer rather than a reputable watch dealer. I'd tread very carefully. Personally I'd much rather buy from dealers recommended from people I trust.

I guess you were right guys. I do not recommend him after he just shafted me on a deal for around $100.

Just thought I'd post about this private seller/dealer for anyone interested.

He went on about trust and relationships etc and we had been working on a deal for a couple of days for buying a speedmaster broad arrow from him and had I suggested a deal to get us over the line around chrono24 fees and safety for both of us. I got a message saying let me do the maths and I was waiting patiently for a day without reply.

I just messaged him to see if he had done the maths in the day without reply and he comes back saying he's sold it to someone else for probably $100 maximum more than what we had basically agreed because he didn't move much on the price during negotiations.

This to me sucks because this wasn't a cheap deal and had no warranty like from a shop for around the same price.
He's active on a lot of the trader groups on Facebook for Rolex etc.
His name is Mo Alboinen and his Instagram is Watch.Mo.official.
Take this information as you please.

I agree he looks like an influencer/poser/bro and I wouldn’t be rush in to buy a watch from him.

But, it sounds like you made an offer on the watch and he said, “let me think about it” as it was below the price he wanted. If that’s the case you hadn’t agreed anything.
Then in the interim someone else offered him the price he wanted and so he sold to them.

If the above is correct thats not him shafting you. It’s another buying coming in mid way through negotiations and meeting his price.
If you negotiate hard on a watch you have to accept that sometimes you’ll make a decent saving and get a deal, but other times you’ll lose out.

But for around $100 on a $3500 watch?

So your argument is not that he ‘shafted’ you, but that he should have just accepted your offer rather than accepting more from somebody else?

You could also say, if he was saying “my bottom price is $3500” and you were offering 3400, why not just pay the extra 100?

I’ve had a similar issue when I was selling a watch a while ago. Someone contacted me and asked some questions which I answered. They then made a low ball offer which I politely rejected and told them my best price.
They made another offer below my best price which I rejected again and reiterated my best price.

Then another buyer contacted me and we agreed a deal and I marked the watch as sold.

The original party then got mad that I sold the watch when we were in the middle of negotiations.

My view is that nothing had been agreed and we didn’t have a deal in place. Once I agree a deal, that’s concrete and I won’t budge from that (even when another person offers more money which I’ve also had a couple of times). But, until a deal is agreed, the watch is available.

Equally when I see a watch on the forum I want. If I really want it I don’t usually mess around trying to get a small discount. I’ll usually message saying “is the watch still available, if so I’ll take it”.

Bingo….learnt years ago “fυcking around for $50” lost me a watch or two.

But basically a guy posting with flash cars and calling himself a influencer is ⏰🛎️s for me

You think 3400 is a low ball offer on 3500? Okay then. No point talking to you is there?
He didn't say his bottom price was 3500 though either he said he was going to work out the offer but he obviously didn't.
He was trying not to pay the fees on chrono24 but I wanted to stay on there for my protection but I structured it so he wasn't going to be paying the full fees on 3500 so he was making more than when he started.
Why not pay the extra 100? Why not pay an extra 500 or 1000?
I have to add on 20%vat onto anything we agreed so I structured it so I'd pay less and he'd pay less fees and we were both secure.

And if you think it's good to ignore someone for a day while they're expecting a reply then I wouldn't be buying from you either.

The end of the day he sold it from under my nose while I was sat patiently waiting to pay. We had agreed on a price.

So you agree with me then.👍

Possibly but I'm not saying that's what he is. I'm just disappointed that we agreed a price and he sold it from under my nose while making me wait for a day.

The end of the day he sold it from under my nose while I was sat patiently waiting to pay. We had agreed on a price.

Let’s work through this line by line to avoid any confusion.
1. I never said 3400 was a low ball on 3500. I’d consider that a very good offer. I simply said I’d previously had a low ball offer on a watch I was selling.

2. I obviously don’t know what his asking price, best price and your offer were as you haven’t divulged that information. I was simply using those figures as examples in lieu of the actual figures.

3. My point around the extra 100 is you seem to be mad at him for not accepting 100 less. He could levy the same at you, why not pay 100 more. I’m not saying either is right, but it depends on your perspective and whether you’re the buyer or seller.

4. Again, please tel me where I said it was good to ignore someone for a day. I haven’t said that, so don’t imply I have. I generally don’t like “mulling things over/let me think about it” as it leads to situations like this. Accept or reject an offer but do so in a timely manner.

So, details aside, did he accept your offer or not? If not, although there’s clearly issues with ignoring you for a day which isn’t acceptable, if he hadn’t accepted your offer and was still thinking it over, it’s reasonable to sell it to someone else (notwithstanding my comments about thinking it over above). If you had an agreement in place then it’s completely unacceptable to sel to someone else.
So which is it?

Haha, I kept looking for the "shafting" and never found it. He just decided not to do the deal with you. You have no idea what he did with the watch, it's pure speculation.
