Anyone here using Thermacel mosquito eradicator?

Hi folks,

I bought one of those Thermacel mosquito intimidators, but I’m stumped to understand if it is safe or not (doctors used to recommend certain brands of cigarettes after all). I am 100% impressed by its effectiveness. It promises a 15ft circle of mosquito-free bliss, and as you can see in this photo, I’m chillin’ in the sunset and the little buggers are all bouncing off a forcefield about 6.5 feet out. All evening long, not one bite, not even a drive-by

I don’t know (don’t have one) but checking the instructions, it says not to eat nor drink while using it so that is not good for me.

I am still looking for a good solution myself. The best solutions always seems to avoid letting them install themselves in the first place but … that’s not easy apparently (and depending on your neighbors habits too) : I’ve seen this system used in some city in France : aqualab…. But that’s not what you were looking for.

Works for us... Mosquitoes, no-see-ums, even wasps.

Have used one on a boat for nights on end camping for years. Never had an issue.

I have slept in places where mosquitoes could drain you in a few hours in Northern Australia.

It’s gotta be better than the stuff I put on my skin for years before I used Thermacells

I swear by them…

I used to live on the Gippsland lakes by the shore, the front door was in spitting distance of the lake, right on the opposite shore was Mosquito point……the mozzies there all had 4 engines!

Been using a Flowtron zapper for years. It's is the best thing ever and works well. I also purchase dragon flies every year and let them go to town. The ones I get are apparently smart enough to stay away from the zapper.

I picked one up at Costco, but they sell through their own website, their Amazon store, and most drug stores and outfitters seem to carry them, and the refills.

I meant the dragonflies. We have a little pond, and it would be cool to have dragonflies.

Unfortunately, a local guy. I assume he gets some starter stock from somewhere, though. Or maybe they're sustainable and he just raises generation after generation. There are plants you can plant that attract them, too. They fascinate me, their ancient history especially.

Probably not as their history is so ancient it predates recorded history 😁

Yeah, dragon flies, at least superficially, go back 100s of millions of years. They were large then which is cool. We had many growing up out West and watching them do their thing was awesome. Between them and the bats, we had pretty effective anti-pest defenses. I recommend a documentary called "Dragons and Damsels" that I watched on Curiosity Stream, but I think you'll find it on YouTube or elsewhere.
