I had a stuck Seiko quartz case back. Tiny slot for leverage with no edge remaining.

Clean up everything with Acetone so the super glue sticks.

Apply a small amount of super glue on the back and set the nut or bolt. I prefer a bolt head to provide more surface area and you have a built in handle for removal.

Wrench it off slowly (lefty loosy) and viola! Seiko 4.jpg
Now to remove the case back from the bolt. Liberal soaking in acetone and it slips off.

There you have it. Case back removed. Bigger case back = bigger nut. Give it a try.......on a beater first ;-)

Why didn't you try scissors first before going to all that trouble?

When I lived Down Under, a twenty-cent coin was the perfect size for those case backs. Or maybe it was a ten - it's been too long. A coin! :)

    Granted, I didn't try scissors :)

It's a joke that goes back to the early days, where some idiot used scissors on the back of a Rolex in a YouTube video.

    Love this thread redpcar

I first heard about this 10 years and it was apparently a joke reply on WUS. Someone took the poster seriously and used this method to open a stuck Seiko case back.

I've used this method many times over the years without fail.

I'm really uncomfortable with the picture you use for your avatar.
Even though I'm dead, I still have feelings.

Hey come on, what are you taking about? You poor slobs! Why don't you go out and get a job for crying out loud? I've been working since I was 9 years old. Yeah, sure, look where I am today, I'm right on top!

See you're depriving yourself the fun of handing it to your watchmaker and letting him be frustrated by it. No good watchmaker is going to admit to a customer that he was defeated by a caseback as a matter of pride, so he will get it in the end, no matter how much misery it causes.

I recommend supergluing threaded backs, gives you more time to come up with the cash for the service

not trying to hijack........I had an indy call me to pick up my x-33 a bunch of years ago, he snapped three of the case back screw heads off on a battery change and didn't want to go any further. He didn't charge me anything....

Now you've got the back off, cleaned up and that silly bolt off, why don't you either get someone to braze a wing nut on the back OR grind out the screwdriver slot so you've got a lot more leverage in future?
